Decatur Fire Dept.
A Commitment to Serve

The City of Decatur is a safe place to live, where it’s not uncommon to see firefighters hosting fire safety classes or stopping by the homes of elderly and disabled citizens to say hello.

“We're in the business of preventing fires.”
— Toni Washington, Fire Chief

Since 1909, The Decatur Fire Department has served with integrity and distinction. But a lot has changed since the 20th Century. Today, Decatur firefighters are responsible for a wider array of services—fire prevention, community service, EMS, community outreach, CPR instruction, car seat checks, and of course fighting fires.

When asked to document the work of Decatur Fire Station No. 1, we were beyond thrilled. What we captured was a dedicated family, motivated with a passion for service for all Decatur residents.
